Community Kitchen
Community Kitchen is a cherished monthly gathering where Link Friends and volunteers come together to cook, eat, and enjoy entertainment, easing Sunday loneliness with shared friendship and connection. Expertly led by Fiona Wright and supported by over 25 dedicated volunteers, it’s a highlight of the month for many.
A place at the table
We’ve been running Community Kitchen for more than 10 years because Sundays can be the loneliest day of the week for many people. With shops shut early, families busy, and fewer social activities available, the day can feel long and quiet, especially for those living alone. Our monthly session offers something to look forward to: a warm, welcoming space where people of all ages can gather to prepare and cook a delicious meal, share stories, and enjoy the simple pleasure of sitting around a table together. We also provide transport so that everyone who wants to come can join in with ease.
If you’d like to join us, call our office: on 01189798019 or fill in the contact form.
Edith’s story
“Being on my own, I just find it’s not worth cooking for myself, so I really look forward to coming. I think the new venue feels like a treat, especially the comfy chairs! Everyone works so hard making it all look lovely, and the table hosts encourage even the quiet ones to talk.
When I see all the smiling faces, it makes my day.” *Names changed
Happy memories…
Jean’s story
Jean, 90, joined The Link after losing her beloved husband. She struggled with loneliness and limited mobility, making it hard to stay connected with others. Jean now enjoys in-person visits and attends Community Kitchen every month, where she catches up with new friends and joins in with quizzes.
Her mood has lifted significantly, she feels her pains are less, and she has formed meaningful friendships.
Jean shares, "I really enjoy going to the Community Kitchen because I’ve made some good friends, and I always look forward to seeing them. I always feel better when I have been out doing activities and seeing other people." *Names changed
