GDPR guidance for volunteers

Protecting your privacy

The Link Visiting Scheme takes the responsibility of protecting volunteer’s, Link Friend’s and stake holder’s personal information very seriously. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is an EU law designed to protect the privacy of all individuals within the European Union and the European Economic Area. It came into force on 25 May 2018. It tells us how we should collect, store, and use people’s personal data. Personal data can be anything that can be used to identify a living person. It could include an address, phone number or full name. It can be digital (on a computer) or physical (printed out or paperwork). Sensitive personal data can be identifiable information that if misused can have a detrimental effect to the person. If you would like to know more about how we protect your privacy, please request a copy of our GDPR policy by emailing admin@linkvisiting.org.

Confidentiality

  • Please be aware of keeping all information regarding your Link Friend confidential from anyone outside of The Link Visiting Scheme.

  • Think about what you want to share with your Link Friend before sharing your own personal information, situation or thoughts and be clear about your purpose for sharing it. When in doubt, leave it out.

  • As part of your duty of care, you are unable to agree to keep a secret. If you think your Link Friend or someone else is at risk of harm, you must report it immediately – please see the ‘safeguarding adults at risk’ guidelines in this document.
