Going greener
At The Link, we try to be thoughtful about the way we work and the impact we have on the world around us.
From the way we run events to the choices we make day to day, we’re always looking for small ways to reduce waste, reuse what we can and work a little more sustainably.
Here are some of the things we’re doing.
Reduce, reuse, recycle
We try to make the most of what we already have. Through the use of our storage unit, many items are reused year after year, from seasonal decorations to equipment used for activities and events.
When items are no longer needed, we look for ways they can still bring value to the community, such as donating them as raffle prizes or sharing them with local groups.
Reducing food waste
Food is often a lovely part of bringing people together at Link events, but we are mindful about avoiding waste wherever possible. Careful planning and sharing surplus where we can helps ensure that food is enjoyed rather than thrown away.
Working with our community
A big part of our sustainability approach comes through local partnerships. By working closely with local supporters, businesses and community organisations we are able to share resources and reduce unnecessary consumption.
This includes things like food donations, using community spaces for activities such as Link Thursdays at Space for All, and meeting in local pubs for our Pie and Pint Club.
Thinking about transport
Transport is an important part of helping people stay connected. We work with local organisations and community services to support efficient and accessible transport options for our Link Friends, including bus services and shared journeys where possible.
Working smarter
Behind the scenes we are also looking at how we can reduce our environmental impact in the way we work.
This includes moving towards paperless working, storing information electronically, and encouraging the team to think about simple ways to reduce waste and energy use in our day-to-day work.
Asking “What more can we do?”
Sustainability is an ongoing journey. We are introducing a new internal policy to raise awareness within the team and encourage everyone to think about what more we can do, from energy conservation to recycling practices.
By aligning with the Charity and Community Hub’s environmental initiatives, we hope to play a small but positive role in creating a greener workplace and community.
Small steps, shared impact
No organisation gets everything right straight away, but we believe that by working thoughtfully and collaboratively we can make positive changes over time.
By supporting people, strengthening communities and caring for our environment, we hope to help create a future that feels a little brighter for everyone! 😃
