Remember a Charity Week 2026
From 7-13 September 2026, we're joining charities and partners across the UK for Remember A Charity Week, encouraging people to think about leaving a gift in their Will to a good cause. This year's theme, "What's My Legacy?", invites us all to think more deeply about what we're proud of, what matters most to us, and how we want to be remembered.
Every year, we support over 750 older people across Wokingham Borough who are experiencing loneliness and social isolation.
We know that life can become smaller through bereavement, poor health, reduced mobility, disability, caring responsibilities, loss of confidence or lack of transport - and for many people, loneliness isn't simply about being alone, but about feeling forgotten and disconnected.
Through one-to-one befriending, regular telephone support and welcoming social activities, including our weekly community café, we help older people rebuild confidence, form meaningful friendships and reconnect with their community.
A legacy of friendship
A legacy doesn't have to be a grand gesture: it can be a reflection of who we are and what we believe in, and an opportunity to leave the world a little better for future generations.
This week, we're asking our supporters who are writing or updating their Will to consider including a gift to The Link, alongside gifts to family and friends. Gifts can take the form of a share of an estate, a fixed sum, or a specific item or asset - whatever the size, it can make a lasting difference. If you already have a Will, you don't necessarily need to write a new one; a solicitor can advise you on a simple amendment. For more information, please contact our team. Daphne's story
Daphne, 84, lives alone with dementia, and has no family nearby. She often felt lonely and longed for companionship. We matched her with a befriender who encouraged her to attend our welcoming weekly community café. Today, Daphne enjoys regular social contact, new friendships and feeling of community. She told us: “It's made such a difference. I love having someone to talk to.”
How to leave a gift to The Link
Leaving a gift in your Will is a personal decision and we understand that family and loved ones will always come first. However, after providing for those closest to you, even a small gift can help ensure that future generations of older people receive the friendship and support they need.
What kind of gift can I leave?
You may choose to leave a share of your estate (known as a residuary gift), a fixed sum of money or specific item or asset. Whatever the size of your gift, it could make a lasting difference.
I already have a Will. Do I need to write a new one?
Not necessarily. A solicitor can advise you on making a simple amendment to your existing Will.
Why leave a gift to The Link?
Because friendship matters. Your gift could help fund volunteer befriending, telephone support, community activities and opportunities for older people to connect, belong and thrive.
