Corinne & Carole

Corinne is one of our Community Response volunteers and she has been making calls to people on the ‘shielded list’ during the COVID-19 crisis.

I really enjoy talking to the residents and have built up a rapport with them. It’s really nice to know you’ve helped make a difference in being able to reassure them that they are not alone and that you are only a phone call away.

The residents are really grateful for the calls and knowing that you care about them.  Sometimes they want to just talk about how they are feeling and what they’ve been up to and are grateful for someone just to listen. It means a lot to them.

I felt moved the other week after speaking with Carole, one of the residents. We started talking about blogging and I shared my experiences of it and she said she’d like to give it a go. The following week she received a food parcel which had a journal and a pen inside and she decided to start writing. The next time we spoke she said I had inspired her to write in the journal.  She said blogging had helped her take her mind off things. Sometimes she has up and down days and I said its ok to not be ok.  I told her that I’m sending you a virtual hug!
